2. Classic American Apple Pie:

Ingredients:

For the pie crust:

For the apple filling:

6 cups apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced

¾ cup granulated sugar

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg

1 tablespoon lemon juice

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces

Instructions:

1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).

2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and sugar for the pie crust.

3. Add cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture and cut it in using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

4. Gradually add ice water, one tablespoon at a time, and mix until the dough comes together. Divide the dough in half, shape into disks, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

5. In another bowl, combine sliced apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice for the filling.

6. Roll out one of the dough disks on a floured surface and fit it into a 9-inch pie dish.

7. Pour the apple filling into the pie crust and dot with small pieces of butter.

8. Roll out the second dough disk and place it over the apple filling. Trim the excess dough and seal the edges by crimping or pressing with a fork.

9. Cut a few slits on the top crust to allow steam to escape during baking.

10. Place the pie on a baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes. Reduce the oven temperature to 375°F (190°C) and continue baking for an additional 40-45 minutes, until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.

11. Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool for at least 2 hours before serving.
