We all have a voice that needs to be heard

My name is Christopher Wilson and I am the Young Voices Ambassador for JustMyMemphis.
I’m an active Sophomore at Overton High School where I am given the opportunity to use my voice through many different avenues, but most importantly, through my writing. Most of the things that I write in my CAPA- Creative and Performing Arts- Creative Writing class are poems. I write poems a lot for various reasons, but mainly to express how I feel about certain things.

Nevertheless, we all have a voice that needs to be heard. In the city of Memphis, we all walk on different paths of life and see different things that happen around us. One thing that I have noticed in modern-day society is how the adults stereotype us, the youth, and criticize us all for the crime that one teen committed. They say that our generation is extremely intelligent, but we all lack the wisdom and understanding of that wisdom to continue on strongly. So, I want to challenge you all to use your collective “voice” prove to the adults of our society that they are wrong about us.

I challenge you all to write articles about whatever you may go through in life that can inspire someone else to do what you did. For example, if you volunteered with an organization and had fun doing it, then write about your experience! Many of you may think that writing is an arduous task to do, but in my opinion, it isn’t! Even though I am a writer, there are times when I may stumble over a patch of Writer’s Block, yet I still seek out ways for me to be inspired.

Student and Writer | Overton High School
I see myself in the near future pursuing my Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems at a prestigious
university and being a New York Times best-selling author of my own novel series.
While you all are writing your articles, I will also write articles and I will be in the community representing different events to show everyone that our generation has to potential to be more than we are already, if we simply write about what we actually do in and out of our communities.
