I was born premature arriving 3 months early only weighing 2 pounds and 6 ounces. My parents were told I wouldn’t live for 24 hours, but they were proved wrong . . .
I also have Sickle cell disease, amongst other health issues. My story could be that of a victim, but that’s not my life at all. I never let sickle cell get the best of me. I had to deal with a lot of difficulties growing up with sickle cell and I had to overcome a lot of things that others don’t have to deal with, but I didn’t let that get in my way.
I will be hosting my 5th annual St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital benefit cindery and Sickle Cell awareness event. The event will be held on Friday June 8, 2018 at Minglewood Hall (1555 Madison Avenue Memphis TN 38104). All proceeds from this event will be donated to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital. My goal is to raise $5,000. I began this project at age 15. This is my way of giving back to St. Jude where I received my treatment for Sickle Cell and also giving back to my community. I pray this project will continue to grow.
“You can do anything in this world all you have to do is believe in yourself and never give up.”
I am determined to reach my goals, have a career and live my best life. I’m the end winning is a choice we all get to make. I am thankful for St.Jude, their staff, and the great care they have provided for me over the years. Without St.Jude life would have been a a lot different, because I wouldn’t have got the care that I did and I wouldn’t be as educated as I am on sickle cell disease. I’m also thankful for having a strong support system in my loving family, because without them I wouldn’t be where I am today. My advice to anything who has felt or feels defeated by life is to always remain positive, never give up, and continue to dream.
