Steinway & Sons and Amro Music to Sponsor 3rd Annual “Doctors in Concert
Studies have shown that music majors are the most likely group of college graduates to be admitted to medical school (Thomas, L., “Case for Music in the Schools,” Phi Delta Kappa, 1994).
Perhaps it is no surprise then, that so many physicians pursue music-making over the course of their lives.
Now entering its third year, Doctors in Concert showcases the musical talents of local physicians who play the piano and other musical instruments. Co-Sponsored by Steinway & Sons and Memphis’ own Amro Music, proceeds from the event will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Last year’s event generated close to $10,000 for the hospital and included performances by 10 local physicians as well as two St. Jude patients.
2016’s concert date is set for Saturday, March 5, 2016, at 7 PM. In addition to the nine physicians scheduled to perform, a special guest performance will be given by Markie Maloof, a BMI recording artist and granddaughter of a founding ALSAC member, James Maloof. ALSAC is the fundraising and awareness organization for St. Jude. Markie is now on staff, herself, with ALSAC, where she works with the Youth Development Programs.
Tickets and information is available online at www.doctorsinconcert.com or in-store at Amro Music. The concert will be held at the Buckman Performing Arts Theatre on the campus of St. Mary’s Episcopal School in Memphis.

About Steinway & Sons
Each Steinway & Sons piano is a hand-built masterpiece, taking over a full year for construction and final preparations. More than 200 artisans are involved in the hand-crafting of each Steinway, resulting in a unique voice and character for each instrument. Henry Steinway founded the piano company in 1853, building the first Steinway piano in his kitchen. Within just a few short years, the company was winning international awards for its pianos. Now with over 150 years of experience and over 100 patents, Steinway & Sons is widely recognized for building the world’s finest pianos.
