The season of giving
By Jerome Robinson
JustMyMemphis launched the Season of Giving last year to help local non profit organizations raise money as the year came to an end. This year we are starting early and expanding the Season of Giving.
When you hear the phase Season of Giving, you might think we are doing this as part of a fall holiday. You might think we are doing this as part of a national event like Giving Tuesday or Shop Local Saturday. For us, the Season of Giving is none of these things. It simply is a wrap up of another year for us and you. It is one more chance before the sun sets on another year to do something great.
“To us the Season of Giving happens when you share your greatness with others so they can find hope.”
Business owners in some cases are looking for a way to capture more sales during the holiday season so that they can end the year strong. This is not a selfish goal at all. You see when businesses do well, they are able to hire more, give more to the community, and add to the economic wealth of our community. This is a good thing! So for business owners the Season of Giving is about creating an opportunity to help local businesses end the year on a high note and start 2019 with a plan of thriving.
But what is the Season of Giving for you? You might be a mother, a father, a student, or a retiree. You might be fighting economic hardships, the loss of a loved one, divorce, or fighting with an illness that has taken your joy. To us the Season of Giving for you happens when you share your greatness with others so they can find hope that turns into goals that turns into realities. JustMy invites you to share your #BeAmazing story and give hope to others. So, have you made it through a dark place? Have you fault a battle and won? Have you done something with your life that you thought you could not do? The Season of Giving for you is sharing your story. That is your gift to the people of Memphis that need your #BeAmazing words.
Memphis Grizzlies guard Mike Conley has been named the Southwest Division finalist for the 2018-19 NBA Sportsmanship Award and is listed among 12 finalists for the 2018-19 Twyman-Stokes Teammate of the Year Award. The winner for each award will be announced on June 24.
On March 9, 2019, Memphis mayoral candidate and Shelby County Commissioner, Tami Sawyer held a community rally to introduce her campaign platform and share her vision for the future of the city of Memphis with supporters.
Mikah is going to spend three years visiting every National Park Service site (418 sites to be exact) and he is ending his journey April 29th at the Washington Monument. He is inviting everyone to come out and celebrate!
I was sitting down with a friend who works in sales at FedEx a few years ago and I brought up the question of Amazon replacing FedEx as a dominant player in shipping. My friend said that would never happen. FedEx isn’t worried about Amazon. At that time Amazon Prime was new. Amazon had just purchased a fleet of jets and trailers for shipping. A look at Amazon’s past was like the handwriting on the wall for me.
