A Musical Team up!

Memphis Youth Symphony Program and Memphis Symphony Orchestra

March 12, 2019

The Memphis Youth Symphony Program (MYSP) and the Memphis Symphony Orchestra (MSO) are pleased to invite the community to their annual Side-by-Side concert on Sunday, May 5, 2019 at 5:15pm.

 Debbie Heath

The MYSP bids farewell to conductor Dr. Andrew Crust with selections from Tchaikovsky’s Fourth Symphony conducted by Robert Moody, Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance, and The Pines of Rome Finale performed by the combined Side by Side Orchestras of the MSO, Youth Symphony, String Orchestra, and University of Memphis Brass! Through this performance, multiple pairs of teacher / student combinations are working together in a professional environment of learning and performance. Some of these relationships are quite deep with parent musicians playing with their own children.

▪ MYSP twin sisters Sophia Best (viola) and Emily Best (cello) are playing with both MSO parents, Iren Zombor (cello) and Scott Best (bass).
▪ Abbye Friedman (clarinet) is playing with her mother, Rena Feller (clarinet).

“The opportunity for young musicians to learn alongside a musical counterpart with extensive
orchestral experience is terrific,” says MYSP board chair, Rhonda Causie, “and we are grateful
to the Memphis Symphony for this generous partnership.”

The concert will begin at 5:15pm at the Cannon Center for Performing Arts 255 N Main St, Memphis, TN 38103. General admission tickets ($15 adults; $5 students) can be purchased in advance at the Memphis Symphony Orchestra Box Office or online at memphissymphony.org. For more information, contact Debbie Heath, MYSP Orchestra Manager, at (901) 722-4004 or orchestramanager@mysp-music.org.

Hope to see you there!
