hanging out at

There was word on the street about a new rock climbing gym in Memphis. The #FunCrew had to check it out.
#ClimbisLife is not a part of my list of descriptive hashtags I would give myself, but I’ve seen a couple rock climbing spaces. The environment of Memphis Rox is exactly what I expected it to be, welcoming. As it should be with the people of One Family Memphis putting the space together for the community.
Let’s take a climb on the wild side
Let’s just get one thing straight. They have everything you could possibly need in a gym and rock climbing. Let’s start with the gym equipment Squat racks, weight benchIf heights is what you’re after the “Grand Canyon” top rope area has 50ft walls for you to scale up. Trained staff is there to belay and give helpful hints if you get into a tight spot on the way up or down (Ha! Get it? You go up, then you go down? No? Moving on.) Then there’s the bouldering area where height is less of a challenge and raw skill is tested, no strings attached, literally. The mats are closer to you as falls are expected when one starts testing their limits but as always the Memphis Rox staff are there to help. Better yet, you can ask a complete stranger for tips if they are bouldering next to you. Everyone wants to see someone else accomplish a challenging climb. Get to know someone, make some climbing buddies because there’s no reason not to in such a fun place. A juice bar is a couple steps away from the climbing area to replenish your energy so you can conquer new routes.
Now let’s talk about entry. The facility has suggested prices for everyone but if you “can’t pay it’s okay”. You just need five hours of your time donated to either helping out around the gym or you can volunteer those hours at a local organization and that will get your membership taken care of for the whole month! WHAT?! Did he say I get the whole month for five hours? Yes, access to a gym to stay healthy for just volunteering and making your community better. That’s a win/win.
It was fun, we had a BLAST! If you don’t believe me check out the video!

I was sitting down with a friend who works in sales at FedEx a few years ago and I brought up the question of Amazon replacing FedEx as a dominant player in shipping. My friend said that would never happen. FedEx isn’t worried about Amazon. At that time Amazon Prime was new. Amazon had just purchased a fleet of jets and trailers for shipping. A look at Amazon’s past was like the handwriting on the wall for me.
