On a Day of Tragedy the Memphis Grizzlies Spirit of Giving Shines
GRIZZLIES PLAYERS TONY ALLEN AND JARELL MARTIN HANDED OUT 400 HOLIDAY FOOD BASKETS
Memphis Grizzlies players Tony Allen and Jarell Martin tipped-off the Grizzlies’ Season of Giving, presented by Gossett Motor Cars, by distributing 400 holiday food baskets to deserving families at the Ed Rice Community Center. This past Friday afternoon a line of families wrapped around the community center waiting for their turn to meet the players and get their baskets. The Holiday Baskets were packed by the nice folks over at Cash Saver. Baskets included a whole turkey, green beans, canned corn, brownie mix, cranberry sauce, stuffing and mac n’ cheese.
There was lots of picture taking, hot chocolate at the door, and happy kids getting to meet our local heroes. The event was the perfect example of how the Memphis Grizzlies team up with local community organizations to have a positive impact. Local community organizer DeAndre Brown and his Blight Patrol joined in by helping with distribution of the baskets. The Blight Patrol made sure all the guest got the royal treatment by taking baskets to cars and helping guest however they could. Kelly Price from Networking in Memphis was also front and center showing his continued support of the Memphis community.

The Blight Patrol: A Memphis Success Story
Blight Patrol is the result of the hard work and devotion to change created by DeAndre D. Brown, Sr. and his Lifeline to Success organization.
DeAndre has spent the last 14 years learning the justice system as an ex-felon and has experienced, first hand, the problems, confusion and frustration one encounters upon returning to a community. A former student of Rhodes College (Pre-Med) and LeMoyne-Owen College, studying business management, DeAndre has become a successful entrepreneur in the Mid-South. He is the Pastor of LifeLine to A Dying World Ministries. DeAndre enjoys spending time with his wife, Vinessa, and their 8 children. Singing in the LeMoyne-Owen College Gospel Choir, teaching bible studies, and playing the piano keep him busy when he has a little free time. His passion is assisting and guiding those that are lost and searching for acceptance.
